Yukro Telila is one of the earliest coffees purchased by Corvus, sparking our interest in southern Ethiopia. Situated in Agaro, Jimma, Ethiopia, the Yukro Washing Station has demonstrated progress in quality year over year.
The coffee we're highlighting is a Washed Ethiopian Heirloom. Heirloom varieties primarily consist of a regional blend of coffees brought into the washing station by farmers. While not sourced from one individual farm, this coffee represents the diverse flavors of Ethiopian coffees that we adore—bright, fruity notes. The washing process clarifies the cup while preserving the body and structure. Notably, washed coffee from Ethiopia has been cupping much higher this year over naturals.
The Yukro Washing Station, part of the Yukro Co-operative, was established in 1977 in the heart of Wanja Qarsa village, nestled within the picturesque Gera District of Jimma. Today, it proudly stands as an integral part of the Keta Meduga Union, home to some of Ethiopia's most outstanding co-operatives united by their dedication to producing top-notch, high-quality coffee.
The mission of the Yukro Co-operative is "Strength Through Unity." By uniting coffee farmers under a common system, their negotiating power significantly improves. This unified approach helps protect them against organized crime and exploitative purchasing practices, paving the way for improved livelihoods and a brighter future.
Tasting notes: Jasmine, Pomelo, and Honey
